ART CALENDAR
Creative Direction & Community Engagement
THE PROJECT:
To celebrate the creativity of the UNM community, I developed and led the 2026 UNM Art Calendar initiative. The project invited students, faculty, staff, and alumni to submit original artwork inspired by the theme “What New Mexico Means to You.” From dozens of submissions, 13 pieces were selected to create a printed calendar showcasing the diverse artistic voices of the university.
BEYOND THE CALENDAR:
To extend the impact of the project, interviews with 12 of the selected artists were conducted, allowing them to share the stories behind their work. These interviews were published across the UNM Bookstores’ social media channels, while a dedicated webpage featured the complete collection, artist statements, and a free print-ready version of the calendar.
THE IMPACT:
More than 500 calendars were printed and distributed free to the campus community during the holiday season. Produced entirely in-house, the initiative reinforced the UNM Bookstores’ commitment to supporting campus creativity beyond retail and was later featured by the National Association of College Stores in its article “Creating Community with a Calendar,” highlighting the project as an example of meaningful community engagement.
